How we rate online casinos

Updated:

Every casino on this site is checked the same way, in the same order, by the same small editorial desk. This page explains what we look at, what we ignore and where our money comes from — so you can judge the ratings instead of taking them on trust.

1. What the welcome offer really costs

We take the published package apart: match percentage, cap in Canadian dollars, wagering multiplier, what it applies to (deposit, bonus or both), maximum bet while wagering and the expiry window. A C$1,600 headline with 70× wagering is a worse deal than C$300 with 25×, and our notes say so.

2. Deposits and, more importantly, withdrawals

Interac e-Transfer, iDebit, InstaDebit, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafecard and crypto are checked for availability to Canadian accounts, minimum amounts and the fee the casino adds. Withdrawal speed is recorded as the casino's stated pending period plus the processing time of the method itself.

3. Games and the studios behind them

We count the live tables, the number of slot studios and whether the flagship progressives (Mega Moolah, Divine Fortune, Major Millions) are actually in the Canadian lobby, not just in the marketing copy.

4. Licence and dispute route

For Ontario we look for registration with iGaming Ontario and the AGCO; outside Ontario we record the licence the operator actually holds (Kahnawake, Malta, Curacao) and which body a complaint goes to. We never write «licensed in Canada»: there is no such single licence.

5. The small print that bites later

Dormancy fees, maximum monthly withdrawal caps, country restrictions inside the terms, verification requirements before the first payout. This is where most player complaints start.

How the score is built

The published rating is a weighted average: bonus value 25%, payments and payout speed 25%, game library 20%, licence and complaint handling 20%, support and interface 10%. A casino that fails the licence check cannot score above the middle of the scale, whatever the bonus looks like.

How we make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you open an account after clicking one, the operator may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing, it does not change the offer you get, and it does not buy a position — the order of our lists is set by the criteria above, and operators cannot pay to move up.

When a review was last checked

Bonus terms in Canada change often. Each review carries the date of the last check; if a page looks stale to you, write to us and we will re-check it. We would rather remove a casino than leave an old offer on the page.

Play responsibly

Gambling is entertainment, not income. You must be 19+ in most provinces (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). If the game stops being fun, ConnexOntario is free and confidential on 1-866-531-2600.
